Magdalene Schnackenberg
Magdalene Margaretha Schnackenberg was born on September 17, 1911 in Posen Township to George and Elizabeth (Bobsin) Schnackenberg. She was baptized at her home in Posen Township on September 17, 1911 by Pastor Laux. She was confirmed on March 28, 1926 by Pastor Scheitel at Peace Lutheran Church in Echo. Magdalene was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. She enjoyed gardening, canning, baking, playing cards and visiting with family and friends.
Magdalene Schnackenberg passed away in her home on January 18, 2012 attaining the age of 100 years, 4 months and one day. She is survived by her sisters, LaVerna Schrader of Echo and Mabel Hoepner of Granite Falls. Also surviving are her nieces and nephews, Burton (Carroll) Kuehn of Belview, Jane (Tom) Garvin of Echo, Roger (JoAnn) Kuehn of Bemidji, John (Audrey) Schrader of Echo, Becky (Gary) Remmele of Dodge Center, Marjorie (Dale) Luepke of Granite Falls, Betty (Gale) Running of Burnsville and Jim (Carey) Hoepner of Echo along with great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death are her parents and her sister Elvira Kuehn and a great nephew. Blessed be her memory.

Brian Naab
Brian Keith Naab was born on October 10, 1962 in Marshall to Orlean and Marjean (Timm) Naab. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. Brian attended St. Luke’s Parochial School and graduated from Echo – Wood Lake Public School in 1981. He lived in Massachusetts, North Carolina, and has spent the last 13 years in Florida. Brian worked as an auto mechanic most of his life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, motorcycling, gardening and always lived life to the fullest.
Brian passed away on December 25, 2011 in Hudson Florida attaining the age of 49 years, 2 months and 15 days. He is survived by his mother Marjean and special friend Leonard Malecek, and his siblings; Scott (Beth) of Hanley Falls, Michele (Steve) Paskewitz of Echo, and Rod (Kelly) of Mora, nieces and nephews; Ryan Naab, Jesse Naab, Travis Naab, Tiffany Jenniges, Kyle Paskewitz, Hunter Naab, and Hailey Naab, great nephew Triston Jenniges and great niece Charly Jenniges.
Brian is preceded in death by his grandparents and his father.

Mildred Kuehn
Mildred Kuehn, the daughter of Carl and Amanda (Stage) Rohde, was born April 19, 1915 in Sheridan Township, Redwood County, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at the Sheridan Lutheran Church in Sheridan Township.
Mildred married Gustav Kuehn on July 5, 1934 at Weber, Minnesota. The couple settled on the Kuehn home farm south of Echo and there raised eight children, Melvin, Elaine, Mavis, Murl, Marlin, Marlice, Marlene and Marvin. They worked together on the farm until Gustav’s death on April 19, 1965. Mildred moved to Vesta in 1982 and eventually to Parkview Home in Belview. She continued to live there until a severe storm on July 1, 2011 damaged the building and she was evacuated to the Golden Living center in Olivia where she lived until the Lord took her home. Mildred Lucille Rohde Kuehn passed away on December 8, 2011 at the age of 96 years and eight month and 19 days.
Mildred loved the Lord and Savior and had such a passion for life. She enjoyed working and serving others and was the cook for a period of time at St. Luke’s Parochial School. She loved raising her family and being on the farm. She enjoyed cooking and garden; the cellar was always full of canned foods and those who came to visit didn’t go away hungry. She loved seeing her family come and had a special place in her heart for “little ones,” as she lovingly spoke of them. She visited with people who were shut-in and Marlene summed up her feelings and those of her siblings, as follows: “We all will miss you so much, Mom. You gave us so many wonderful memories that we will cherish forever.”
Mildred Kuehn is survived by her children, Melvin Kuehn of Dassel, Elaine Schlenner of Woodbury, Mavis and Don Byers of Austin, Murl and Lynn Kuehn of Echo, Marlin and Mary Kuehn of Youngsville, NC, Marlice and Gary Halvorson of Youngsville, NC, Marlene and Dennis Ryks of Renville, and Marvin and Vicky Kuehn of Redwood Falls; 20 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren; one sister Violet Dresow of Redwood Falls; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gustav Kuehn; a granddaughter, Lori Kuehn Williams; a grandson Joseph Kuehn; one son-in-law, Donald Schlenner; two daughters-in-law, Doris Kuehn and Phyllis Kuehn; her parents, Carl and Amanda Rohde; one brother, Gilbert Rohde; and two sisters, Dorothy Fletcher and Arlene Racine.

Hilda Preuss
Hilda Dorothy Matilda (Schmidt) Preuss was born on August 15, 1913 in Posen Township, Yellow Medicine County to Philip and Amalie (Frank) Schmidt. She was baptized on September 5, 1913 and confirmed on Good Friday, April 15, 1927 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Posen Township. On September 15, 1935 Hilda married Raymond Preuss at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. They lived in Echo Township until 1945 when they moved to the Home farm. In 2006 Hilda entered the Parkview Nursing Home in Belview. Hilda participated in many competitions at county and local fairs, feed contests with her laying hens, and corn husking contests, earning her many trophies and ribbons along the way. She was a 4-H leader, loved flower and vegetable gardening and sewing. Both Hilda and Raymond were avid fisherman, with their annual visits to Lake Victoria for many years. She also served on the altar guild at St. Luke’s.
Hilda passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at Sunwood Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Redwood Falls, attaining the age of 97 years, 11 months and 11 days. She is survived by her children; Dennis (LaVon) Preuss of Echo, Delroy (Karen) Preuss of Maplewood, Marvin Preuss of Belview, Bernadine (Dale) Seehusen of Danube, Linda Enger of Eden Prairie (friend Darrel Sonnenberg), Ardell (Bonnie)Preuss of Bemidji, Leland (Bonnie) Preuss of Belview and Ranae (Michael) Edwards of Dalton, 18 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. Also surviving are siblings; Martin Schmidt of Cottonwood, Leroy Schmidt of Wood Lake, Loren Schmidt of Lamberton, Ordean Schmidt of Glenwood, Edgar Schmidt of Webster, WI, Philip Schmidt, Jr. of Wood Lake and Joanne Willhite of Afton, and sister-in-law Laverna Markgraf of Onalaska, WI. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers, one sister, one great grandson, Derek, son-in-law Marvin Enger and daughter-in-law Gerry Preuss. Blessed be her memory.
Daniel Alvin Besser
Daniel Alvin Besser, 85, of Sun City Center, FL, went to heaven May 7, 2011. Daniel graduated from Mapleton High School, Mapleton, Minnesota in 1944, and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served in the South Pacific during WWII, and participated in action on Iwo Jima. He returned to the United States and graduated from Winona State University. Dan was an athlete, educator, investment advisor and school administrator in Frost, MN and then in Echo and Woodlake, MN, retiring in 1988. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Lena Besser. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elaine; and, sons Steven (Tracey and grandchildren Taylor and Alexi); Stanton (Charlene and grandchildren Michael Burley (Sharla and great-grandchildren Kara and Kurtis), Cory Burley (great grandchildren Brittany, Taylor and Cole) and Matthew Burley (Tina and great grandchildren Amanda and Kaitlyn)); Mark (Naomi); and, Matthew (Karen and grandchild Dayna). A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 25 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Posen Township, Wood Lake, MN, with visitation at 10:00 a.m. and service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be Monday, June 27, at 1:45 p.m., at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN. Carol Schwerin
Carol Schwerin joined her Savior on March 2, 2011 after a suffering a severe stroke. An amazing example of kindness and generosity to all who knew her, Carol grew up in Echo, MN. She graduated from High School in 1948 and the Abbott Northwestern Hospital nursing school in 1951. She married Harlan Schwerin in 1953, worked in Alabama for a year as an RN while Harlan finished his military service and then returned to Wabasso Minnesota in 1954. She, her husband, and her four young children settled on the family farm near Wood Lake in 1964. She was a loving and devoted mother but found a way to continue her career in nursing, working in Redwood Falls and Granite Falls. She was generous with her time and talents as the coordinator of the bloodmobile, recently receiving an award for 50 years of service to the Red Cross. She volunteered testing nurse’s aides for the Belview nursing home. She was devoted to the church as a long time Sunday school teacher, ladies aide member, and member of the guild. Carol blessed her 11 grandchildren with her love and was witness to their many achievements. She and her husband developed close communities of friends at a lake retreat near Glenwood, Minnesota over many years and in Alamo, Texas during the past 15 winters. She was enjoying the winter at their home in Trophy Gardens when she died. She is survived by her husband Harlan, her 3 sons, Clayton, Roger, Dave (Diane), by her daughter Kaye (Donald) Wothe, and by her grandchildren, Michael and Garrett Schwerin, Kevin (Beth) Schwerin and Kari Schwerin, Dani, Desi, and Dana Schwerin, and Austin, Jillian, Nicole and Grant Wothe. She is also survived by her sister, Lois (Odean) Odegard, and her brother Rollie(Noreen) Brockman. She is preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Hazel Brockman. Blessed be her memory.
